On to Week 2....

Whew...after an exhausting week of adjusting back to being a student again, I must say I am rather enjoying this new classroom experience. This past week was very educational for me because as much as I use the computer and navigate around the web I have yet to discover all that is available in cyber space. The browser activity was the most beneficial for me, let the truth be told I only use Internet Explorer as my browser. So discovering the other browsers available made me very intrigued to try something new. In my research I discovered that FireFox is the most widely used browser and is compatible with the various operating systems on the market. I am so amazed at my ignorance of all this, (I can not believe I am sharing this little tid bit of information) but I am so excited to learn something new and apply it to my professional and personal cyber life.

As the weeks goes on I am looking forward to learning and improving my technological skills (say goodbye to the help button!)

  1. Brianna,
Like you there is so much technology out there (other web browsers, social bookmarking, online storage) that I didn't even know existed! Can you imagine what will be out there in five years? in two years? NEXT year? How is a person ever supposed to keep up with it all? I am also enjoying the class and hearing how everyone is using the different technologies at work and at home. Have you downloaded Firefox yet? It is all I use and I love it!

  2. I couldn't agree more, Brianna! There is SO much out there, and it changes constantly! Don't feel bad, I also used Internet Explorer exclusively at home, and only use Firefox at work when IE isn't working. I couldn't believe how many browsers I'd never even heard of! I actually had a message pop up on my Facebook today that said it would perform better with an IE upgrade or another browser, and Safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc. were the choices. I think I might install one of those just to try it!

  3. Amen! Nice post Brianna. It's always nice to see someone convert from IE to FF or even something else like Chrome, or even Opera. I actually like using Apple's Safari for Windows, but it isn't as compatible with some sites as the others.

Now onto the video chat programs like Skype and ooVoo. Here is where I start to get lost as I haven't used these as much. I've used Skype before but never realized you could share your desktop with the other person while on a call with them. That was amazing when Louis showed that to me over our chat session. What a wonderful tool to use.

  4. Brianna,
I don't know if it's possible to stop discovering everything that's out here in cyberspace. Everytime I think I've found a site or resource that just might be "it" is about the time someone shows me a different one that is similar, but enough different to make me think that the newer resource might be better.

In my video chat with Louie, he showed me how the Share botton works that Josh talks about above. That is definitely a very, very cool function. I'm excited to try and find a way to use skype in my classroom in the future. Maybe next year.

  5. Brianna,

I know exactly what you mean when you say "I have yet to discover all that is available in cyber space". Isn't it amazing what you thought about the internet before taking this class and what you are starting to think now? I know I am being blown away at every turn.
